A presidential decree has been issued which, from this year onward, makes August 1st the commemorative day of "Día de la Solidaridad y Memoria".
This commemorative date refers to the 2004 event when a kitchen blast in an Asuncion supermarket caused a fire in which 396 people died (half of which, children) leaving more than 500 injured, including 56 with 3rd degree burns.
The date, however is not to be a non-working public holiday.
