The spokesperson of the government of Spain's autonomous province of Mellila, Daniel Conesa, has confirmed that, starting in 2010, the Eid al-Adha (aka. Aid el Kebir or Feast of the Ram) would be an official regional public holiday.
This change, first promised at the end of last year (03-Dec-2008), will be included in the official list of 2010 regional public holidays for Mellila that will be released in September 2009.
The government spokesperson added that March 19, the date of Spanish Father's Day (Día del Padre) and also of the lifting of the siege (Levantamiento del Sitio), will continue to be a public holiday in Mellila, except when a Monday date is declared to compensate March 19 falling on a Sunday, as has become a trend, in recent years (10-Sep-2008).
What will, however, compensate this additional public holiday is the cancellation of the previously scheduled, August 16, 2010, public holiday, compensating August 15 falling on a Sunday in 2010.
