Earlier today, the UAE's Labour Minister, HE Saqr Ghobash Saeed Ghobash, issued a circular which declares Sunday, July 19th , 2009, as a public holiday for the UAE's private sector to also mark "Isra and Miraj".
The aforementioned circular refers to Article 74 of the Federal Law No. 8 (Year 1980) regulating labour relations, to state that all workers and employees in the private sector will be entitled to a fully paid holiday on Sunday, July 19th , 2009.
Recall that, last weekend, the UAE's Minister of Education and Chairman of the Federal Governmental Human Resources Authority, HE Humaid Mohammed Al Qatami, had already issued a circular announcing that Sunday, July 19th, 2009, would be a public sector holiday for ministries and other federal departments on the occasion of Isra and Miraj (12-Jul-2009).
As mentioned in the post that related the public sector announcement, the declaration of a private sector holiday on the same date as the public sector holiday was by no means a certainty, as the UAE recently started declaring public holidays on a different date for the private and public sectors (27-Feb-2009), something that other countries in the Middle East had already started doing in the past (28-Jul-2008 and 13-Nov-2007).
