Uganda's Parliament is voting on a new bill, The Emoluments and benefits of the President, Vice President and Prime Minister Bill, 2009, codifying retirement benefits for Uganda's President, Vice President and Prime Minister. One of the provisions of this new Bill is that a public holiday shall be declared on the day of burial of a President who dies while in office.
This bill codifies a long-standing tradition in Uganda of declaring public holidays on the date of the funeral of various public officials (see, for example, 21-Dec-2008, 02-Sep-2008, 22-Oct-2005, and 05-Aug-2005).
