The President of Liberia, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, has issued a proclamation declaring Monday, July 26, 2010, as a non-working public holiday to be observed throughout the territorial confines of the Republic.
According to the Foreign Ministry release signed by Assistant Foreign Minister for Public Affairs, Josephus M. Gray, President Sirleaf has ordered that all Government Offices and Business Houses be closed on the Day, from 6am to 6pm.
July 26 is set aside as an annual public holiday as per the "Patriotic Observances Law" (Title 26, Liberian Code of Laws of 1956), but such last-minute re-confirmation of annual public holidays are a staple of the Liberian public holidays calendar (08-Apr-2010) particularly when these public holidays fall on a week-end (20-Jul-2009).
