Malaysia Declares State Public Holiday Tomorrow

(Posted on Saturday, June 11, 2011)

The State Secretary to Malaysia's State of Kelantan, Datuk Aiseri Alias, has announced that tomorrow, Sunday, June 12, 2011, would be a one-off State public holiday in conjunction with tonight's FA Cup final between Kelantan and Terengganu.

Last year (30-Oct-2010) a one-off public holiday was declared for Sunday, October 31, 2010, to mark the Red Warriors' defeat of Negri Sembilan in the Malaysia Cup final.

Similarly, two years ago (04-Nov-2009), the Deputy Menteri Besar of the Malaysian State of Kelantan, Datuk Ahmad Yakob, had declared Sunday, November 8, 2009, as a non-working state public holiday to mark the Kelantan Football Team's historic Malaysia Cup appearance, the day before.

The reason for the need to declare a Sunday, non-working, public holiday, is that in 3 of Malaysia's States (Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu), the weekly day of rest is Friday, and that, as such, Sundays are regular working days (21-Jun-2005).
