China's National Tourism Administration has issued a terse, 2-line, statement denying that a return to weeklong May public holidays would soon be announced, as had been reported in some local media.
The May Golden Week, weeklong public holidays were abolished, beginning in 2008, as part of the overhaul of Chinese public holidays announced 5 years ago (09-Nov-2007, 17-Nov-2007, 10-Dec-2007 and 17-Dec-2007).
In recent years, some of China's regions have toyed with the idea of retoring the May Golden week public holidays, sometimes with, and sometimes without, official backing from China's central government (25-Feb-2009, 05-Mar-2009, 15-Mar-2009, 26-Mar-2009 and 31-Mar-2009).
