The Philippines Government has issued Proclamation No.488 which finally specifies Friday, October 26, 2012, as the date for the observance of the upcoming public holiday to mark Eidul Adha.
Late last month (30-Sep-2012), the Philippines Government's deputy presidential spokesperson, Abigail Valte, had issued a rare Sunday morning statement to advise the Philippines population to wait for a formal proclamation from the Office of the President, as to whether or not the initially-announced date of Friday, October 26, 2012, would be the official date for the observance of the upcoming public holiday to mark Eidul Adha.
Spokesperson Valte had been reacting to an article published on the previous Friday in the Philstar newspaper which stated for a fact that "The next regular holiday in the Philippines in 2012 is on October 26, a Friday".
That article, while correctly referring to Proclamation No. 295 (01-Dec-2011) as the source of the official list of 2012 non-working public holidays in the Philippines for the calendar year 2012, omitted to note that the same proclamation clearly specified that "The proclamations declaring national holidays for the observance of Eid’l Fitr and Eidul Adha shall hereafter be issued after the approximate dates of the Islamic holidays have been determined [...]. To this end, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) shall inform the Office of the President on which day the holiday shall fall.".
