Spain Rules-Out Ceuta Public Holiday Change

(Posted on Friday, October 19, 2012)

Source: Boletín Oficial de la Ciudad de Ceuta (BOCCE)

The government of Spain's autonomous region of Ceuta has issued a pre-emptive announcement (un comunicado de prensa para aclarar, ante el "aluvión" de llamadas y preguntas) categorically ruling-out an additional public holiday on Friday, October 26, 2012.

It is not clear if all the rumours of an additional public holiday on Friday, October 26, 2012, are due to the fact that the 2012 Feast of Sacrifice (Pascua del Sacrificio) Muslim public holiday was gazetted for a Saturday (26-Sep-2011), or because neighboring Melilla had declared its own Pascua del Sacrificio Muslim public holiday to Friday, October 26, 2012 (06-Oct-2011).

Note that as per the recent "RESOLUCIÓN de 25 de septiembre de 2012, de la Ciudad Autónoma de Ceuta, por el que se aprueba el calendario laboral para el año 2013." (01-Oct-2012), the date of next year's Feast of Sacrifice (Pascua del Sacrificio) Muslim public holiday in Ceuta was set to October 16, 2013, once again a day later than neighboring Melilla (06-Oct-2011 and 26-Sep-2011).
