Background Information |
|
Governing Law: Official public holidays in Jersey are governed by The Public Holidays and Bank Holidays (Jersey) Law 1951 (revision 15.560 of January 1, 2006). Overall, Jersey tends to follow the UK in the declaration of public holiday, as above, with the addition of Liberation Day.
Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day are moved to the following Monday if they fall on the weekend.
The Battle of the Flowers Day and the Battle of Britain Day are not an official public holiday but are major events which essentially bring the island to a standstill all afternoon .
When Liberation Day falls at the weekend, some employers give an extra day's holiday in lieu, but this is not a statutory requirement unless passed by the States Assembly.
Jersey International Codes JE and JEY (2 and 3-letter ISO3166 codes) and .je (ICANN national top-level internet domain). • Other Sources of Information The following specialized websites are also a good source of Jersey information and news: Bank of England (Jersey central bank), ASI Hot Spots (security-related world events: terrorist threats, political strife, strikes, criminal activity, aviation incidents and health outbreaks), CIA World Factbook (Jersey maps, demographics and economic statistics), and Wikipedia (includes Jersey commemorative dates that are not necessarily public holidays). |
