Governing Law: The list and dates of the official public holidays in Venezuela are regulated by the Ley de Fiestas Nacionales de 17 de junio de 1971 which replaced the earlier Ley de Fiestas Nacionales de 11 de junio de 1921. • Bank Holidays: Although it is common for Latin American countries to have one or two additional holidays when banks are closed but the rest of businesses, including government, is open, Venezuela stands out by the sheer number of bank holidays compared with the number of national public holidays. • Banks and financial establishments usually close the Monday after a non-national public holiday, such as All Saints' Day, but the Consejo Bancario Nacional reserves the right to make last minute changes. • Día de la Resistencia Indígena was decreed to replace Día de la Raza, by Presidential Decree Nº 2028 of October 10, 2002. • Dry Days Law: On public holidays, in Venezuela, shopping centres usually open at noon, and the sale of alcoholic beverage is strictly prohibited. • Venezuela International Codes VE and VEN (2 and 3-letter ISO3166 codes) and .ve (ICANN national top-level internet domain). • Other Sources of Information The following specialized websites are also a good source of Venezuela information and news: Central Bank of Venezuela (Venezuela central bank), ASI Hot Spots (security-related world events: terrorist threats, political strife, strikes, criminal activity, aviation incidents and health outbreaks), CIA World Factbook (Venezuela maps, demographics and economic statistics), the IFES (information covering upcoming elections, referenda, electoral structures and voter participation in Venezuela), and Wikipedia (includes Venezuela commemorative dates that are not necessarily public holidays).
