Tynwald Day is the Manx national day, based upon Saint John the Baptist Day (June 24) but in the old Julian calendar, hence tthe date of July 5. In practice observed on the Monday after, if the 5th of July falls on a Saturday or Sunday. Tynwald Day 1947 had fell on a Saturday, and the following year Tynwald voted to stop that happening again because of disquiet among the populace. • Tourist Trophy Races: The Isle of Man TT Races will celebrated its centenary in 2007.
