30 Jan 2012 (Emirates News Agency-WAM) Earlier today, the UAE's Ministry of Labour, Saqr Ghobash, announced that Saturday, February 4, 2012, had been declared a non-working public holiday for the private sector of the UAE on account of the upcoming Milad Al Nabi (Prophet's Birthday).
26 Dec 2011 (Emirates News Agency-WAM) The UAE's Labour Minister, Saqr Ghobash Saeed Ghobashi, has announced that Sunday, January 1st, 2012, would be a non-working public holiday for the private sector in the United Arab Emirates.
24 Nov 2011 (Emirates News Agency-WAM) The UAE's Board Chairman of the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, Humaid Al Qattami, has announced the dates of the upcoming combined Hijri New Year and National Day public holidays in the United Arab Emirates.
02 Nov 2011 (Emirates News Agency-WAM) The Governor of the UAE's Central Bank has declared 3 days of bank holidays for the upcoming Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) public holidays, and as such has sent a circular to all banks operating in the United Arab Emirates instructing them to remain closed from Saturday to Monday, November 5-7, 2011, inclusively.
01 Nov 2011 (Emirates News Agency-WAM) The UAE Minister for Education and Chairman of the Federal Authority of Human Resources, Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Qutami, has issued a circular announcing that the dates of the upcoming Eid Al Adha public holidays in the UAE ministries and federal institutions will run from Saturday, November 5, to Tuesday, November 8, 2011, inclusively.
31 Oct 2011 (Emirates News Agency-WAM) The UAE Minister of Labour, Saqr Ghobash, has issued a circular specifying the UAE's private sector's upcoming non-working public holidays for the Eid Al Adha (Feast of Sacrifice).
23 Aug 2011 (Emirates News Agency-WAM) The UAE has announced the dates of the upcoming Eid al-Fitr (End of Ramadan) public holidays for the UAE banking and financial sectors.
21 Aug 2011 (Emirates News Agency-WAM) The UAE's Federal Government, through its respective ministries, has announced the dates of the upcoming Eid Al Fitr (End of Ramadan) non-working public holidays, for both the public sector and the private sector.
14 Jun 2011 (Emirates News Agency-WAM) The UAE's Minister of Education, and Chairman of Federal Authority for Human Resources (FAHR), Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Quttami, has announced that the UAE government had decided to move the date of the upcoming Isra Wal Meraj public holiday from Wednesday, June 29, to Thursday, June 30, 2011.
07 Feb 2011 (Emirates News Agency-WAM) Earlier today, the UAE's Ministry of Labour announced that Thursday, February 17, 2011, had been declared a public holiday for the private sector.

Workweek: The UAE introduced a five-day government working week in 1998, but left the private sector to make its own decisions.
Weekends: Since September 2006, weekends are Fridays and Saturdays, for civil servants. The change is optional for private sector companies.

Muslim Holidays : Muslim bank holidays, legal holidays and public holidays for UAE were evaluated using the Umm al-Qura Calendar of Saudi Arabia which is used in Saudi Arabia and in most of the Persian Gulf States. Holidays may occur a day later in countries outside the Gulf region. The sunrises, sunsets, moon phases, moonrises and moonsets used in these calculations are based on the location of Mecca (latitude 21.42°N, longitude, 39.82°E, GMT+3 hours, no summer time rules).
