Governing Law: Official public holidays in Oman are regulated by the 2003 Labour Code (Royal Decree No. 35/2003) which repealed the 1973 Labour Code. • Weekends: The Omani private sector joined the Omani public sector in benefitting from a 2-day weekend in November 2011, and the weekend in Oman was changed from Thursday-Friday to Friday-Saturday in April 2013 (effective on May 1st, 2013). • National Day on November 18 and The Sultan's Birthday on November 19 are listed as 2 of Oman's official public holidays. Note that religious holidays are included only if they are national public holidays, or if the national labour code has specific holiday allowances for employees of specific religions. Muslim Holidays : Muslim bank holidays, legal holidays and public holidays for Oman were evaluated using the Umm al-Qura Calendar of Saudi Arabia which is used in Saudi Arabia and in most of the Persian Gulf States. Holidays may occur a day later in countries outside the Gulf region. The sunrises, sunsets, moon phases, moonrises and moonsets used in these calculations are based on the location of Mecca (latitude 21.42°N, longitude, 39.82°E, GMT+3 hours, no summer time rules).
