Background Information

Governing Law: Official public holidays in Haïti are regulated by articles 107-119, in particular 110 and 111, of the Décret du 24 février 1984 actualisant le Code du travail du 12 septembre 1961 as modified by the Loi du jeudi 5 juin 2003 actualisant le Code du travail du 12 septembre 1961.  Working Holidays: The above-mentioned decrees and laws list some holidays as non-working (jours fériés chômés), and some as working holidays (jours fériés non chômés). Both specify that some of the working holidays could, at the President's discretion, be converted to non-working holidays on a case-by-case basis.  Haiti International Codes HT and HTI (2 and 3-letter ISO3166 codes) and .ht (ICANN national top-level internet domain). • Other Sources of Information The following specialized websites are also a good source of Haiti information and news: Central Bank of Haiti (Haiti central bank), ASI Hot Spots (security-related world events: terrorist threats, political strife, strikes, criminal activity, aviation incidents and health outbreaks), CIA World Factbook (Haiti maps, demographics and economic statistics), the IFES (information covering upcoming elections, referenda, electoral structures and voter participation in Haiti), and Wikipedia (includes Haiti commemorative dates that are not necessarily public holidays).
