    The government of Bangladesh has announced that the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha (Feast of Sacrifice) public holidays for the public sector would be extended to run from June 5 until June 14, 2025.

    Recall that, earlier this year, the government of Bangladesh similarly issued an executive order declaring Thursday, April 3, 2025, as an additional public sector holiday on account of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr (End of Ramadan), so that the public sector was on holidays for 9 consecutive days, from Friday, March 28, until Saturday, April 5, 2025, inclusively.

    Today's announcement further amends last October's announced list of 2025 public holidays, published by the Advisory Council of Bangladesh's interim military government.

    The Consejero de Empresa y Trabajo of Spain's autonomous region of Catalunya, Miquel Sàmper i Rodríguez, has signed the gazetted entry containing the previously-announced annual list of the 2026 Catalonia non-working public holidays, in the Orden EMT/66/2025, de 30 de abril, por la que se establece el calendario oficial de fiestas laborales en Cataluña para el año 2026 (DOGC de 6 de mayo de 2025).

    In 2026, the Catalonia-specific public holidays will be June 24 (San Juan), September 11 (Día Nacional de Cataluña) and December 26 (San Esteban), while October 12 and November 1 will not be public holidays in 2026 as they fall on a Sunday.

    Finally, as usual, in the territory of Aran, in accordance with the Decree 152/1997, of June 25, and Decree 146/1998, of June 23, which modify Decree 177/1980, of October 3, on the calendar of fixed and substitute festivals, the festival of December 26 (Saint Stephen) will be replaced by June 17 (Aran Festival).

    Philippines President, Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., has signed Proclamation No. 878 declaring Monday, May 12, 2025, as a special non-working public holiday in the Philippines, "to enable the people to exercise their right to vote properly".

    In 2022, then President, Rodrigo Duterte, had similarly signed Proclamation No. 1357 declaring Monday, May 9, 2022, as a special non-working holiday in the Philippines, "to enable the people to properly exercise their right to vote".

    Today's declaration of Monday, May 12, 2025, as an additional special public non-working holiday thus amends the list of 2025 public holidays in the Philippines, as released last autumn, in Proclamation No. 727, s.2024.

    The Consejera De Turismo y Empleo of the regional government of Spain's autonomous region of las Islas Canarias, Jéssica del Carmen de León Verdugo, has gazetted the list of 2026 regional non-working public holidays in the Canaries Islands, on behalf of the Presidente Del Gobierno, Fernando Clavijo Batlle, in the Decreto 61/2025, de 28 de abril, por el que se determina el calendario de fiestas laborales de la Comunidad Autónoma de Canarias para el año 2026 (BOCA de 5 de mayo de 2025).

    The region-wide gazetted public holidays for 2026 will include the May 30th Día de Canarias as well as the Monday after All Saints' Day.

    Additionally, each island will observe a specific public holiday, and each municipality will have a month, from the day when the Decreto 61/2025 was published, to choose two non-working days, paid and non-recoverable.

    Following new Bavaria public holidays regulations, themselves based on the 2022 census, 1708 of the 2056 Bavarian municipalities will observe the Assumption of Mary as a public holiday beginning in 2025.

    The aforementioned tally includes 6 new municipalities; Martkrodach in Upper Franconia, Bayerisdorf and Weisendorf in Middle Franconia, Schwebheim in Lower Franconia, and Memmingerberg and Oettingen in Swabia.

    On the other hand, Seßlach and Marktschorgast in Upper Franconia will no longer observe August 15 as a public holiday.

    The Ministry of Home, Communications, and Law of the Government of the Madhesh Province of Nepal has declared Tuesday, May 6, 2025, and Wednesday, June 11, 2025, as public holidays to celebrate Janaki Nawami (Sita Jayanti) and Kabir Das Jayanti, respectively.

    Recall that in early March 2023, the Nepalese federal government cabinet decided that provincial governments could add up to six public holidays a year to the national list of Nepalese public holidays released by the federal government, with the Federal Ministry of Home Affairs deciding the regional public holidays to be observed in the Kathmandu valley.
