Vietnam Proposes Annual Public Holidays Deadline
Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Hanoi)
Vietnam's Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Cao Huy, has presented to the National Assembly a draft law amending and supplementing several articles of the Labor Code and in particular adding Vietnam Cultural Day (November 24) to the Labor Code as a public holiday with full pay for workers.
The draft amendment also addresses the delegation of authority to announce specific annual public holiday dates. It establishes a deadline (prior to September 30 of the preceding year) for the announcement of the holiday schedule for the following year (based on the Prime Minister's decision, advised by the Ministry of Home Affairs).
Specifically, the draft law stipulates that the Prime Minister will decide on the specific dates for public holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year) annually, based on "actual conditions".
Currently, the Labor Code stipulates that the Prime Minister determines the specific dates for the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays each year, also "based on actual conditions".
