Indonesia Declares June 7 Public Holiday

The General Elections Commission (KPU) of Indonesia has declared the date of the upcoming general elections polling day, Monday, June 7, 1999, as a nationwide public holiday.

The commission is empowered to make such decisions based on the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Resolution No 16/MPR/1998 on Amendment and Additions to MPR Resolution No 3/MPR/1998 on General Elections.
