As per the April 1987, Macau Pact, Portugal agreed to hand over sovereignty of Macau to the People's Republic of China in December 1999 and, as such the last 11 days of 1999 were recently (1999-11-11) declared as one-off non-working public holidays to coincide with the upcoming handover of Macau to the People's Republic of China.
