Malta Proceeds With Amendment to Legislation On Public Holidays

(Posted on Friday, December 3, 2004)

Source: ICEM

The Government of Malta has introduced legislation discontinuing the practice of declaring day in lieu public holidays on the Monday following any fixed-date public holiday that falls on a weekend, as mandated in Malta's Industrial and Employments Relations Act.

In 2005, if passed, workers would lose three holidays, including the May 1st holiday and Christmas Day.
