The Algerian public sector ministry (Direction Générale de la Fonction Publique) has announced that Saturday and Sunday, December 30-31, 2006, and Monday, January 1, 2007, had been declared as paid non-working public holidays (journées chômées et payées) on account of the upcoming Aïd el-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) and of the Western New Year.
The aforementioned declaration of Saturday and Sunday, December 30-31, 2006, as paid non-working public holidays follows yesterday's communiqué (2006-12-24) by the Algerian Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments (Ministère des Affaires religieuses et du Wakf) and is in line with the "loi n° 63-278 du 26 juillet 1963" which regulates non-working public holidays in Algeria.
