Nepal Cancels November 9 Public Holiday

The cabinet decided not to mark Constitution Day (Sambhidhan Diwash) on November 9, 2006, and scrapped the public holiday that day.

The decision was taken in view of the fact that "the 1990 constitution is almost defunct and the country is being governed through the House's May 18 declaration".

The quoted official added that "We are in transitional phase, waiting for a new constitution", leading to suppositions that the holiday's date might be changed for next year.
