NSW Pondering Extent Of APEC Public Holiday

Source: Sydney Morning Herald
Posted: Sunday, December 24, 2006

NSW Premier Morris Iemma will make a decision in the next few weeks as to whether just Sydney or the whole of NSW will get a public holiday during September's APEC summit. Mr Iemma confirmed a public holiday would be necessary on Friday, September 7, so security forces could close down most of the city's streets for the meeting of 21 Asia-Pacific leaders.

Some business leaders want September 7 to replace the October Labour Day long weekend. For more details on the APEC summit public holiday, refer to our September 12, 2006, news posting, below.

The APEC public holiday in Sydney had been announced a last year ago (2006-09-12).
