As we had surmised in our post of September 9, late last night, the government of Zambia declared a one-off public holiday on Thursday, October 30, 2008, on the occasion of the upcoming presidential election to replace former President Levy Mwanawasa, who died last August.

Recall that, last August 25th (2008-08-26), acting Zambian president, Rupiah Banda, declared as a new annual public holiday, September 3, the day on which the late President Levy Mwanawasa was to be interred, and his birthday.
