The ruling Botswana Congress Party (BCP) has asked the Government to declare Election Day a public holiday so as to give everybody a chance to go to the polls.

The majority party is thus making its own, the drive initiated 18 months ago by the BPP minority party (2007-07-20) and which was drafted into law last summer (2008-08-22 and 2008-11-27).

The next legislative and presidential elections are expected to occur in October 2009.
