Iran Extends Tehran Pollution Public Holiday

Tehran governor, Morteza Tamadon, has announced that the Iranian authorities have extended today's public holiday for another day, Wednesday, July 8, 2009, in the capital Tehran, after a sandstorm blotted out the already heavily polluted city.

Late Monday night, the Iranian government had declared a public holiday for today, Tuesday, July 7, 2009, also in Tehran, when pollution levels attained a level nine times above the norm (2009-07-06).
