Nauru Declares September 1st Public Holiday

Nauru's President, Marcus Stephen, has declared tomorrow, Tuesday, September 1st, 2009, a national public holiday, to celebrate the launch of Digicel's GSM mobile telecommunications network, the first in Nauru.

According to the announcement contained in the Nauru Government Gazette No.86 (G.N.No. 336/2009), the aforementioned declaration of Monday, November 5, 2007, had been declared a non-working public holiday in Nauru to commemorate the 120th Anniversary of the arrival of Christianity on Nauru, was signed by the president of Nauru, Marcus Stephen, and thus amends the previously-released list of 2009 non-working public holidays in Nauru (2008-12-29), as did the earlier declaration of Monday, March 9, 2009, as a day in lieu non-working public holiday in Nauru, was made "in commemoration of the International Women's Day which falls on the 8th of March of each year" (2009-03-02).
