The date of the upcoming Maulid Day (Prophet's Birthday) public holiday has been moved by the Government of Tanzania from Monday, March 9, to Tuesday, March 10, 2009.

This announcement follows in the vein of past Muslim public holidays' dates in Tanzania (2009-01-08) which are systematically later than most of the other countries of Africa and the Middle East, being often the same as those of India and Pakistan, which are usually the last ones to observe Muslim public holidays.
