The President of Burundi, Pierre Nkurunziza, has declared Monday, February 8, 2010, a one-off public holiday to enable civil servants and the private sector to register for the upcoming elections.

The announcement of this one-off public holiday followed yesterday's announcement by Burundi's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that the deadline for the registration of voters in Burundi, set for February 7th, had been extended by two days.
