Congo Brazzaville November 28 Public Holiday Gazetted

Source: Journal officiel de la République du Congo (Brazzaville)
Posted: Friday, December 3, 2010

The law recently passed by the legislative assembly of the Republic of the Congo, making November 28 a new annual public holiday has been gazetted.

As per the "Journal officiel de la République du Congo" (N° 48-2010 du jeudi 2 décembre 2010) the aforementioned and recently voted (2010-11-25) law has been christened "Loi n°18-2010 du 27 novembre 2010 portant institution de la journée de la République" and it stipulates that the new November 28 public holiday will be a fully-paid non-working day ("La journée du 28 novembre est fériée, chômée, payée et fêtée sur toute l'étendue du territoire national. Le régime des rétributions, rémunérations, salaires et indemnités de tous genres ne subira aucune modification de ce fait").

Note that November 28 had been instituted as a national public holiday, by the "loi 42-59 du 2 octobre 1959", but this law was never gazetted and therefore never came into effect. Just to be on the safe side, the Loi n°18-2010 does specify that the 1959 law is abrogated ("Est abrogée la loi n° 42-59 du 2 octobre 1959 fixant la date de la fête nationale de la République du Congo au 28 novembre de chaque année").
