Nicaragua's Minister of Labour, Jeannette Chávez Gómez, has announced that MITRAB (Ministerio del Trabajo) had declared public sector holidays from Friday, December 24, 2010, until Tuesday, January 4, 2011, inclusively.

This announcement, based on Article 76 of Nicaragua's Labor Code, has become expected annually (2009-12-07, 2008-12-05, 2007-12-03, and 2006-12-14), although the original legislation only extended the public sector holidays until January 1st.

But, as Christmas and New Year fall on a weekend, the period has been expanded by 2 days (Los días Veinticinco de Diciembre y 1° de Enero, por ser días feriados nacionales, no afectan la cuenta de las vacaciones).
