Oman Announces Hijra Public Holidays

The Omani authorities have announced the dates for the upcoming Hijri New Year public holiday, beginning for both the private and public sectors on Tuesday, December 7, 2010.

Oman's Manpower Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser al Bakri, has issued a ministerial decision declaring that the Omani private sector would be on public holidays from the first day of Muharam 1432 AH (December 7) until Thursday, December 9, 2010 (Fridays are the private sector's weekly day off).

In a separate announcement, Oman's Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court and Chairman of the Civil Service Council, Sayyid Ali bin Hamoud al Busaidi, revealed the details of his ministerial decision declaring public sector holidays for the period from the first day of Muharam 1432 AH (December 7) until Saturday, December 11, 2010, inclusively, for ministries, public authorities and other departments of the State administrative apparatus.

Note that in a later announcement, the Muscat Bourse announced that it would close on December 7-8-9, 2010, for the Islamic New Year holidays, and that trading would resume after the Omani weekend, on Sunday December 12.
