Earlier this morning, Paraguay's president, Fernando Lugo, signed executive decree 5.577 making the afternoon of Tuesday, December 7, 2010, today, another one-off public sector holiday, beginning at 11:00, local time.

This decree, which applies to "la administración pública y las entidades descentralizadas", follows similar half-day public sector holidays declared on various occasions, in the past (07-Dec-2009, 09-Sep-2009 and 06-Apr-2009), and precedes tomorrow's annual nationwide public holiday for the Virgen de Caacupé.

As an aside, Nicaragua's Ministerio del Trabajo (Mitrab) declared a general public holiday for the afternoon of Tuesday, December 7, 2010, earlier this month (01-Dec-2010 and 06-Dec-2010).
