The Department of Education of South Africa has announced the dates of the special one-off bridge holidays for schools, for the calendar years 2011 and 2012.

The aforementioned announcement, contained in the "National Education Policy Act: 2011 and 2012 school calendars for public schools", follows the annual trend of past years (2008-11-12, 2008-02-24, and 2006-03-22).

These one-off school holidays are usually adjoined to a Tuesday or Thursday public holiday, and are not to be confused with school terms and vacations. Thought these are not full-fledged public holidays, many employees do take the day off to benefit from a 4-day weekend with the entire family.
