UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, has said that he would like a one-off public holiday declared on the occasion of the wedding of Prince William, tentatively scheduled for the spring or summer of 2011.

In his statement, the Prime Minister added that, if the wedding were to be held on a Saturday, then either the Friday or the Monday would be declared a one-off public holiday.

A bank holiday (as public holidays are called in the UK) was declared in 1981 on the occasion of the wedding of the Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer.

One-off public holidays have also been declared for the Queen's Golden and Diamond jubilees (2009-12-27, 2001-06-19 and 2000-11-24).
