The aforementioned declaration of a one-off bank holiday was made, according to the communiqué of the Central Bank of Egypt, as this year's El Hijra (Islamic New Year) non-working public holiday falls on a Saturday, as was done, though not systematically, in the past (2011-07-20 and 2011-01-05).

In addition, the Egyptian stock market has announced that it would be closed on Monday, November 28, 2011, for the start of the upcoming elections.
