Iraq 2011 Islamic New Year Public Holidays Announced

Iraq's Secretariat of the Council of Ministers has announced that Sunday, November 27, 2011, would be an official public holiday on account of the upcoming Hijra new year 1433.

The Islamic new year public holiday survived the 2008 overhaul of Iraq's public holiday 2008-02-08), although it has been moved around to match nearby weekends in the past (2010-12-06 and 2008-01-08).

This seems to also have been the case this year as per the terms of the aforementioned announcement (the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers decided to determine the next Sunday a public holiday) which seem to imply that the date of Sunday, November 27, 2011, is a day in lieu public holiday due to the actual Hijra new year 1433 falling on Saturday, November 26, 2011.
