The Nepalese Government has finally confirmed the change in date of the upcoming Gaura Parba public holiday to Sunday, August 21, 2011.
Late last month (2011-07-31), Nepal Astrologers' Council formally asked Nepal's Government to change the date of the public holiday associated with the 2011 Gaura Parba festival, from September 5, 2011, to Sunday, August 21, 2011.
It is not clear from reports available currently if this is to be a one-off change or a permanent change. Various media reports have described the new date of Sunday, August 21, 2011, for this year's Gaura Parba public holiday as either "on Bhadra 19 as per the lunar calendar" or "the day after the Amukta Bharani Saptami", both of which are incorrect, as far as we can tell.
