Sources at Nepal's Home Ministry have announced that Friday, January 14, 2011, would be a one-off public holiday to coincide with the formal beginning of Nepal Tourism Year 2011.

Late last year (31-Dec-2010), the Nepalese Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation had proposed the declaration of a nationwide public holiday, however the Home Ministry's proposal to the cabinet restricts the public holiday to the Kathmandu Valley.

A formal confirmation of this one-off public holiday is expected tomorrow afternoon, after the cabinet meeting.
