Nigeria Cancels April 4 State Public Holidays

(Posted on Monday, April 4, 2011)

Nigeria's National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the National Assembly elections have been postponed until Saturday, April 9, 2011, instead of today as had been announced earlier.

This means that the federal public holiday that had been expected (02-Apr-2011) for today, Monday, April 4, 2011, is now dead in the water.

In addition, the Nigerian media is reporting that those states (in particular Ekiti State and Ondo State) that had declared Monday, April 4, 2011, as state public holidays, without waiting for the federal government to do so, have now issued statements cancelling these state public holidays.
