Omani authorities have announced that the upcoming one-day public holiday for the Prophet's Birthday would be moved from February 15 to Thursday, February 17, 2011.
In a decision by Oman's Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court and Chairman of the Civil Service Council, Sayyid Ali bin Hamoud al-Busaidi, Omani ministries, public authorities and other units of the state administrative apparatus will remain closed on Wednesday, February 16, 2011, on account of the upcoming Prophet's Birthday. As the public sector weekend in Oman is Thursday-Friday, the public sector will return to work on Saturday, February 19, 2011.
In a separate communique, Oman's manpower Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nassir al Bakri, issued a ministerial decision stopping work at private sector companies and establishments on Thursday, February 17, 2011. As the private sector weekly day of rest in Oman is Friday, the private sector will also return to work on Saturday, February 19, 2011.
The UAE also recently announced (2011-01-31 and 2011-02-07) that the upcoming one-day public holiday for the Prophet's Birthday in the UAE would be moved from February 15 to Thursday, February 17, 2011.
