Pakistan Government Cabinet, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, has announced that it would re-introduce "two weekly holidays" (ie. a 2-day weekend) in all the federal and provincial offices.

The aforementioned measures will take effect as of Saturday, October 15, 2011.

In a later announcement, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) announced that it, and all the offices of SBP Banking Services Corporation, including the Public Debt Offices, would observe five-day working weeks beginning on October 15, 2011 as per the notification issued by the Pakistani Federal government. Recall that last year (2010-04-24), Pakistan's central bank had announced that, until further notice, it and all commercial banks in Pakistan would be closed on Saturdays (a regular working day in Pakistan), also as part of measures to cut state electricity consumption.
