The Government of Paraguay has announced that it is considering declaring either Friday, May 13, or Monday, May 16, 2011, as one-off public holidays to coincide with Paraguay's independence bicentennial.

The aforementioned announcement is based on the fact that the annual May 15 public holiday, and the recently-voted (2011-01-29), but not yet promulgated, May 14, public holiday, both fall on weekend in 2011.

According to an interview given by Paraguay's Minister of Culture, Ticio Escobar, the declaration of at least one of either Friday, May 13, or Monday, May 16, 2011, as a one-off public holiday, is certain ("por lo menos uno o dos feriados vamos a tener").
