The Acting Regional Governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) of the Philippines, Ansaruddin Adiong, has declared Friday, July 15, 2011, as a one-off regional public holiday.
The aforementioned public holiday was declared in conjunction with the observance of "Nisfu Sha'ban", a 15-day preparation period for the fasting month of Ramadhan expected to start on August 1, 2011.
The non-working status of the public holiday is confirmed for both the private and public sectors in the provinces of Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Cotabato, Maguindanao and Sultan Kudarat and the cities of Cotabato, Marawi, Kidapawan, Tacurong and Iligan (corresponding to the ARMM).
Once again (10-Nov-2010), the Philippines is using the Saudi umm al-Qura lunar calendar, as compared to neighboring countries (11-Jul-2011).
