Saint Helena Declares Royal Wedding Public Holiday

The Governor of St Helena, Andrew Murray Gurr, has issued a proclamation declaring Friday, April 29, 2011, as a public holiday on the occasion of the upcoming royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Currently, the UK (2010-11-23), Scotland (2010-11-24), the Cayman Islands (2011-02-01), the Isle of Man (2011-01-10), Gibraltar (2011-01-06), Jersey (2011-01-20), Guernsey and Alderney (2011-01-26), the Falkland Islands (2011-02-02), the Turks and Caicos Islands (2011-02-27), the British Virgin Islands (2011-03-18) and Anguilla (2011-03-31), have also officially announced that Friday, April 29, 2011, would be a one-off public holiday to commemorate the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Recall that there have been 2 other changes to 2011 St Helena public holidays announced, so far. Last summer, the day in lieu for the 2011 St Helena's Day public holiday was declared for the Friday before (2010-08-11), while the 2011 Queen's Birthday public holiday was moved to Maundy Thursday, earlier this year (2011-01-28).
