A spokesperson for South African Cooperative Governance Minister, Sicelo Shiceka, has confirmed that the date of the upcoming local government elections will be a non-working public holiday.

Spokesperson Vuyelwa Qinga went on to say that Minister Shiceka is once again (19-Mar-2009) likely to pick a date in the middle of the week in order to make sure people do not go away for the long weekend.
