The UAE's Minister of Education, and Chairman of Federal Authority for Human Resources (FAHR), Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Quttami, has announced that the UAE government had decided to move the date of the upcoming Isra Wal Meraj public holiday from Wednesday, June 29, to Thursday, June 30, 2011.
In its communiqué, which applies to employees in ministries and federal bodies, the FAHR stated that the aforementioned decision was arrived at in accordance with Article No. 100 of the Cabinet Law No. 13, "which allows carrying over an official holiday to the beginning or end of the week if it falls between two working days".
Before 2006, weekend days in the UAE were Thursdays and Fridays, but this was changed to Fridays and Saturdays by Cabinet decree No.21/2006 (2006-05-31).
In a later ministerial circular, issued today, the UAE's Minister of Labour, Saqr Ghobash Saeed Ghobash, announced that the official public holiday to mark Al Isra Wal Miraj would also be on Thursday, June 30th, 2011, for all workers in private sector enterprises and institutions.
