Uganda Declares February 18 Public Holiday

Uganda's minister for information and national guidance, Kabakumba Matsiko, has announced that Friday, February 18, 2011, the date of the upcoming general elections, would be a public holiday in Uganda "to enable Ugandans elect their leaders".

In addition, schools in Uganda will be closed from tomorrow, February 16, until Sunday, February 20, inclusively.

Uganda's elections are often accompanied by a one-off public holiday (2006-03-05, 2006-02-20, 2006-01-31, 2001-03-09, and 2001-06-25).
