UK Unveils May Day Public Holiday Options

The UK Government has unveiled plans to replace the early May public holiday in the UK by either St George's Day, in April, or Trafalgar Day, in October.

Last month (2011-02-04), the UK government had announced that it was considering replacing the annual, early May, public holiday, with a new annual public holiday in the autumn, in the latest of recurring rumours of a new UK public holiday which have been a staple over the years (2010-04-24, 2010-03-13, 2009-07-28, 2009-04-05, 2009-01-15, 2008-10-28, 2008-06-26, 2008-01-11, 2007-07-25, and 2007-06-27).

Such a change would probably not take effect until 2013, as there have already been significant one-off changes to the May public holidays in the UK for 2011 (2010-11-23) and 2012 (2009-12-27).
