Venezuelan Public Holiday December 2

The government of Venezuela has declared Friday, December 2, 2011, as a one-off public holiday on account of the upcoming Summit of Latinamerican and Caribbean countries (Comunidad de Estados Latinoamericanos y Caribeños - Celac).

As per the aforementioned "Decreto Nº 8.630 del 26 de noviembre de 2011 publicado 29/11/2011", the one-off public holiday declared for Friday, December 2, 2011, will apply to the Distrito Capital (Caracas), the State of Vargas, and the municipalities of Sucre, Chacao, Baruta, and el Hatillo in the State of Miranda.

As per Articles 1 and 4 of the Decreto Nº 8.630, this one-off public holiday does not apply to the private sector ("La declaratoria de día feriado señalada en el presente artículo, es aplicable sólo al sector público") nor to the banking sector ("Se excluye de la aplicación del presente decreto a las instituciones del sector bancario tanto públicas como privadas").

However, as per Article 3 of the Decreto Nº 8.630, all schools will observe the Friday, December 2, 2011, one-off public holiday ("Se suspenden en el sector público y privado las clases y las actividades académicas en sus distintos niveles").
